Americans (with technical training) fix things.
Which is good, because Americans with no good sense break things.
Let’s take a look at this new 60-second commercial from one of the nation’s leading specialized technical training educators.
The spot, created by the New York advertising agency DeVito/Verdi, assures viewers that once again it will be America’s skilled workers who will help rebuild and repair this nation in the wake of the current health crisis.
Utilizing images of heroic posters that were used in the last century to rally citizens and allay fears during the world wars, the Great Depression, and other events that placed America on the brink, the commercial reminds viewers that today’s pandemic is not unlike past national calamities the nation has faced.
“This pandemic has given a lot of people a different perspective as to what’s important and what jobs are truly essential. And just like in the past when facing adversity, we’ve not only survived but we’ve adapted. And in the end, we’ve come out stronger as a nation,” said Peter Tahinos, senior vice president of marketing at Lincoln Tech.
Learn A Trade, Repair America
Lincoln Tech experienced a double-digit increase in new students starting training programs compared to the same period last year, with the Transportation and Skilled Trades segment rising by 13.5 percent and the Healthcare and Other Professions segment growing by nearly 19 percent.
All 22 of the Lincoln Tech schools are now open and holding in-person, hands-on instruction in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
But What If “Things” Are FUBAR?
I like DeVito/Verdi and typically respect their creative outputs, but this commercial could benefit from a cold splash of water in its face.
COVID-19 is a new form of lethal, and it’s going to take a lot more than skilled plumbers and nurses to fix this mess. It’s disingenuous to assert otherwise.
We, the People, need a change of heart, followed by a change of mind. Do they teach this at Lincoln tech, as well?
When millions of our citizens are science deniers—purely for political reasons—the nation isn’t teetering on the brink, we’re over the wall and scattered about in a heap of broken Humpty Dumpty fragments.
It’s now everyone’s job to pick up the pieces.
