The Washington Post drove Tricky Dick Nixon to resign. Will the nation’s newspaper also drive Don Trump from office? Time will tell. What we know now is the mainstream press is consistently under attack from a wannabe dick tater.
Don Trump says the press is “an enemy.” The fact is he and his criminal syndicate are enemies of both decency and democracy. Given the darkness that has befallen the nation’s capital, WaPo’s new tagline is more than a bit fitting.
Did this line emerge from a brilliant copywriter on the account? No. It’s part of the newspaper’s inner dialogue, now presented for the masses.
“I think a lot of us believe this, that democracy dies in darkness, that certain institutions have a very important role in making sure that there is light. And I think The Washington Post has a seat, an important seat, to do that because we happen to be located here in the capital city of the United States of America,” Jeff Bezos, owner of WaPo, said when he purchased the paper.
Regarding use of the new line, Post spokesperson Kris Coratti said, “We started with our newest readers on Snapchat, and plan to roll it out on our other platforms in the coming weeks.”
