At least they’re honest about it. This ad on creativehotlist.com says it all:
BOONEOAKLEY – Young, fun, award-winning ad agency in Charlotte, NC seeks talented, award-winning art director/copywriter team.
We’ve set the bar high for our agency. So we’re setting the bar high for our applicants:
UNLESS YOUR WORK HAS BEEN IN “CA” ADVERTISING ANNUAL OR THE ONE SHOW, PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR BOOK.
IF YOU’VE BEEN IN CA OR ONE SHOW, THEN KEEP READING…
I wonder how many award-winning AD/CW teams are looking on creativehotlist.com for jobs. We never did find out the results of BooneOakley’s video application contest.
So, they’re not interested in “discovering” talent? Weird.
BooneOakley is a terrific agency that’s done some kick-ass work. So I can hope that job listing was written with tongue firmly in cheek.
Even though they’ve won their fair share of awards, one would like to believe that the powers that be at BooneOakley are capable of thinking for themselves rather than deferring to the collective “wisdom” of the award show circuit. Surely they are above that kind of lemming-like mentality.
Carl:
For a moment I thought too the ad was tongue-in-cheek, but reading the whole thing, they sound serious.
Maybe they can enlighten us.
Wow, I’m truly amazed. Even our job listings get press.
Figured I’d better respond before this gets out of hand.
This job posting was listed less than 24 hours ago. So far, it actually has generated more than a dozen applicants who, in fact, have been in CA or One Show.
As far as BooneOakley “discovering” talent, we’re all about that. It’s just at this particular time, we’re looking for proven talent.
Like much of what we do, it’s experimental. We’ll see if works or not.
Yeah this is an odd one…a great agency like BooneOakley should be able to tell whether an ad is good or not without an award. P.S. this is not sour grapes, i would qualify if i was interested…
Probably they want to edit the number of books they get. In lots of industries, job openings come with a “price of admission to participate” such as a master’s degree, just to cull the number of applicants.
John:
Thanks for taking the time to weigh in. You guys definitely get people talking…
