Vox Absorbs Pownce

Breaking news from the mergers and acquisitions department in San Francisco…Six Apart has acquired Pownce.

We have been impressed not only with the vision for Pownce but the great work of Leah Culver and Mike Malone and are very happy that they will be joining us. We’re also very excited to welcome Kevin Rose and Daniel Burka as advisers to Six Apart.
For Pownce users, we are very sorry the site will be closing. We welcome you to join us on Vox – Leah and Mike are there! – and we hope the Pownce and Vox communities can come together, just as the teams have, towards a better future.

Leah Culver, who was just named one of Fast Company’s “Most Influential Women in Web 2.0” says she’s pretty sad about Pownce shutting down.

I’m not so sad about the technology or the code, but about more about the people. The Pownce community meant a lot to me and I’ll really miss everyone. I’m hoping some of you, my Pownce friends, will join my Vox neighborhood or add me as a friend elsewhere.

I wrote my first ad for a political candidate when I was 17 years old. She won her race and I felt the seductive power of advertising for the first time. Today—after working for seven agencies in five states—I am head of brand strategy and creative at Bonehook in Portland, Oregon.
