The Grand Old Pedophiles are rallying around one of the saddest characters in politics today, a twice deposed Alabama judge who has a trail of sexual molestation claims against him longer than the rope he used to hang himself with.
Some Republicans—the ones who still believe in the Republic—are more than a little put out by their party’s descent into madness and moral degradation.
Stand Up Republic, a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization founded by former presidential candidate Evan McMullin and Mindy Finn, his 2016 running mate, is spending $500,000 on digital and TV ads that ask Alabama conservatives to reject Republican nominee Roy Moore’s Senate bid.
Stand Up Republic wants to grow a community of Americans to defend democratic ideals, norms and institutions. “These are not partisan issues. They are fundamentally American and require the action and support of all to protect. This is our most basic civic duty.”
According to The Washington Post, the group’s media buy may end up being one of the largest third-party interventions in Alabama political history. Highway 31, a Democratic super PAC created to help Democratic nominee Doug Jones, has spent at least $2.9 million; and America First PAC, a pro-Trump group, announced $1.1 million in spending after the president broke with his party’s congressional leaders to endorse Moore.
The special election in Alabama this month is a lightning rod issue for people on every side of the political fence. I know running a pedophile for Senate appears baffling to many on the left. But it’s not all that hard to understand. The Harasser in Chief brags about abusing women, and he shares the pandering gene with Roy Moore. The religious right may not like or even believe the claims against their political strong men, but they do care deeply about the sanctity of the unborn. In their fatuous minds, Democrats are baby killers.
