Sarah Thompson, the global and New York chief executive of Droga5, lives in the deep end.
She’s led Droga5 to ten Agency of the Year wins since 2008.
Go back and read that sentence again.
Now, The New York Times is featuring Thompson in their “Corner Office” column.
That’s the real Big Time.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview:
How do you hire?
The big thing I focus on, beyond their ability to think and to be the best at what they do in advertising, is stamina. So I’ll ask them to give me an example of something that happened in the past couple of years that really tested their stamina as a leader and how they resolved it.
Stamina is something that’s very hard to teach, and I think it makes a difference between great managers and great leaders.
Great question, and given how badly people want to work for Droga5, it is also highly instructive.
There is physical stamina to consider, which one needs to work long into the night, night after night.
There is also mental and emotional stamina, both of which are needed to endure the childishness and/or narrow-mindedness of colleagues and the smothering privilege of clients.
How would you answer this question?
