The Lincoln Project is a group of Republican operatives who shoot arrows into President Trump’s less than Teflon hide. The group’s mission is to defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box this November. To do that, these media-savvy operatives and Beltway insiders have unleashed a torrent of anti-Trump ads.
Let’s look…
“Those who demand, they protest, threaten, scream with words of selfish entitlement. They fight, but only for themselves.” In other words, you can do your duty as an American citizen or you can be a total prick. The choice is yours. This is a free country.
Watch Out Brad
Republicans make it personal and they know how to hit. That’s what’s so fun about this work from The Lincoln Project. There are no punches pulled, only one body blow after the next. If this keeps up, The Trumpians are going to be heavily bruised, if not broken.
The spot above is meant to annoy Trump, who hates to share the spotlight with anyone. It’s also a thumb in Campaign Manager Brad Parscale’s nose. The Lincoln Project is not afraid, and frankly, Democrats could learn a lot from this group.
Mourning in America
This spot is the group’s Big Ugly. It’s a remake of President Reagan’s 1984 commercial from Hal Riney called “Morning in America.” Riney’s spot was largely credited with helping Ronnie stay in power.
The following spot is meant to dethrone the false king and his court.
“The Lincoln Project video highlights the effects of President Trump’s failure as a President and how he’s left the nation weaker, sicker, and teetering on the verge of a new Great Depression. In a time of deep suffering and loss, Donald Trump continues with his failed leadership and his inability to put the country before himself,” said Jennifer Horn, co-founder of The Lincoln Project.
“Americans are not only mourning the loss of each other, they are mourning the loss of their routine, families, and livelihoods. Trump and his administration failed at every turn to take the response to COVID-19 seriously until it was too late; now we face collective mourning for the America we once knew.”
Why This Is Not GOP on GOP Warfare
Washingtonian spoke to Rick Wilson of The Lincoln Project about the group’s work. Here is one classic exchange:
Q. Clearly your organization is anti-Trump, but you all still identify as conservatives. How do you toe that line, of being anti-Trump without being pro-Democrat?
A. It’s easy because Donald Trump isn’t a Republican, he isn’t a conservative, and he isn’t a patriot. He lacks even the most fundamental patriotic principles to put the country before himself. Our goal is to defeat Donald Trump and to eliminate Trumpism in our political space. And that means we’re going to go after some of the enablers of Donald Trump who have made choices to support him even though it’s hurt their states and violated their oath of office. Those Senate races that are vulnerable, they’re vulnerable in part because of Donald Trump. So we’re going to be sure we’re talking to folks in places like Arizona, and Colorado, and Maine, and Iowa. We’re focused on ensuring that even if Donald Trump does win a second term, he doesn’t have the latitude to continue the destructive and corrupt things he’s been doing.
