On Saturday, Moody College of Communications at the University of Texas held a virtual graduation ceremony for its 2020 graduates.
You can revisit the ceremony here:
The College is home to the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations, among other notable programs.
I love how Moody is sharing the student’s success on Instagram.
The state university is a feeder for local industries, by design. UT’s ability to provide technology talent, for instance, has everything to do with The Valley’s investment in Austin, and the consequent alteration of the physical and economic landscape of the city.
I’d say the same forces are at work above. Moody produces a lot of smart graduates every year. The class of 2020 is looking at a frightening job market, nevertheless, there are always openings and I expect Moody’s Allstar students to find work before too long.
I Want Moodies To Write for Adpulp.com
Adpulp.com was launched in October 2004 from my Chicago apartment and Shawn’s home office in Omaha. Since that time, I’ve lived in Bluffton, SC; Portland, OR, and now Austin. Adpulp has been “Off Madison” since day one, but we haven’t belonged to any place in particular, because I didn’t belong.
Now, I do belong and so does Adpulp. Technically, Adpulp wasn’t made in Austin, but I would not have taken the leap of faith and started the site had I not attended SXSW in Austin in March 2003, 18 months prior. Looking at it this way, Adpulp was born here, at least in part, it just took 18 months to deliver the site.
All of which is prelude. Now that Adpulp belongs to Austin, it is absolutely critical that we recruit writers from Moody College of Communications. Today, this means freelance opportunities under the Emerging Voices Project banner. In the future, it may mean more.
I have spoken to two Moody grads recently, but so far, I haven’t found the writer or writers I am looking for. To be precise about it, the person I am seeking will write a mix of feature articles that help to tell the “inside story” of what it is like to emerge in the Marcom workplace, right now. How hard is it to get hired? How demanding is the job? And so on.
The other aspect is reporting on local advertising-related events, everything from speakers to art openings at Preacher’s gallery. For each new article, Adpulp will pay from $100 to $250 article, depending on the scope of the piece.
These articles are paid for by two sources of revenue—our generous patrons on Patreon and our business sponsors.
If you want to write for Adpulp and you are currently a senior, or grad student at Moody or somewhere else (studying media, marketing, journalism, PR, or advertising), or you’re in the workplace now but have less than two years of work experience, I want to hear from you.
