Senator Kamala Harris from California is a populist. She’s for the people.
Harris is also from Oakland. America has never had a president from Oakland before. Oakland is no joke. It’s the blue-collar city by the Bay.
The Indian-Jamaican-American Woman from Oakland
Harris is smart, and her parents are smart. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was raised in southern India and completed her undergraduate education at the University of Delhi at just 19, at which point she came to the U.S. to pursue a doctorate in endocrinology at the University of California, Berkeley. There she met Donald Harris, a Jamaican native who also came to the United States as a young adult to pursue doctoral work at Berkeley in economics.
Harris’s parents divorced when she was seven, after which she and her sister spent most of their time with their mother in an apartment in the flatlands area of Berkeley, a working-class neighborhood that was primarily African-American.
My mother used to say ‘don’t sit around and complain about things, do something.’ Basically, I think she was saying. You’ve got to get up and stand up and don’t give up the fight!
And it is this deep-rooted belief that inspired me to become a lawyer and a prosecutor.
According to Mental Floss, she grew up steeped in multiple rich cultures.
I grew up with a strong Indian culture, and I was raised in a black community. All my friends were black and we got together and cooked Indian food and painted henna on our hands, and I never felt uncomfortable with my cultural background.
Hopeful Again
The latest polls show Harris at 10 percent, trailing only Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden who are favored by about 25% of the Democratic Party’s primary voters at the moment.
It is March 2019. There is an ultra-marathon to run before any Democrat is nominated. Harris is now in prime position to move herself and her agenda forward as more people begin to hear her story and what her plans are for America.
