Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley is running anti-Koch brothers ads that say, “Monica Wehby may be a good investment for the Koch brothers. But she’s the wrong choice for Oregon.” It’s a good line and one I am apt to agree with.
Now, let’s look at the challenger for a minute. Her views on certain things appear to be unorthodox.
Yes, you just saw former Portland mayor Sam Adams, a Democrat, in the Republican challenger’s TV spot.
According to Politico, Dr. Wehby, a neurosurgeon and mother of four said:
My opponent keeps trying to paint me as an extreme right-wing Republican, and that’s actually not who I am. I’m a very independent-minded person, like our state. I’ve always felt government should stay out of it. This isn’t a change in thought for me at all.
Republicans in blue states endorsing gay marriage is not totally new, reports Politico. Three openly gay GOP House candidates have featured their partners in campaign materials, including Richard Tisei in Massachusetts, Dan Innis in New Hampshire and Carl DeMaio in California.
