Banana Republic Only Sells Clothes To PC Users

I was going to say something positive about Banana Republic’s current story-based campaign, where the print work teases and then directs one to, but no. BR’s site does not support Safari.

We’re sorry, but we do not support the version of the browser you are using.
We’re working on supporting Safari. Please check back soon.

Check back soon? I don’t think so.
Once a brand loses the opportunity to connect, that’s it. Game over.

  1. I’d have to second your opinion, especially when the point of the campaign is drive users to web destination.

  2. You have to wonder who thought it was a good idea to value design and code over 10% of your potential sales.
And then you have to fire them.

  3. Yes, this is very unfortunate, not only does the BR website not
allow Safari users, neither does it’s affiliated brands (Gap it’s parent and Old Navy).
Too bad as well, with the ease of internet shopping for the Holidays they will lose. I guess they can afford to?
They do offer you to use a different browser. Well, you probably no what my reply would be there.

  4. What? That’s so weird. I KNOW I was viewing the BR site just fine less then a month ago with Safari. I wonder why they went out of their way to make it not work.
It seems they relaunched the site or something. Because I just opened it in Firefox and it’s not the same site I saw before. The site I remember is still available on the Japanese site, and can be viewed with Safari.
I don’t understand how a site could just not work in a browser (I mean, sure sometimes things get rendered incorrectly but it still ‘works’); they would probably be better of just saying we recommend Firefox and allowing people to continue through with Safari and purchase things.

  5. It’s funny you should mention that…
We’re sorry, but we do not support the version of the browser you are using.
Our site works best with the following browsers:
    PC users
Internet Explorer 5.5 and above Download browser
Netscape 7 and above Download browser
Mozilla (including Firefox) 1.0 and above Download browser
Weird thing is, I’m using Firefox. And always the latest version, at that. How annoying…
