If There Ever Is A Web 3.0, I Hope It's Distraction Free

As a means of preserving my sanity, I'm in the middle of evaluating my online activities and determining what's worth keeping and what's not.

My social networking accounts will be the first to go. Most of my actual friends don't play with this shit, so it's a waste. As far as meaningful networking goes, that's a joke. I'm not going to be "discovered" at Facebook or MySpace or LinkedIn.

There are some other things that are needless distractions. Affiliate programs don't work. Google's AdSense barely works. I also find very little value in Twitter, Going, Upcoming.org, Campfire/Backpack/My TadaList and Digg. I don't want to pay for Last.fm. I don't want to spend the time to make iLike work for me. And so on...

What does work for me is pretty simple to define--Flickr, YouTube, del.icio.us and blogging.

Please note, this is a personal statement. I don't have anything against any of these services. I'm just bombarded with information on a daily basis--spam, comment spam, pitches from PR people, "friend" requests, voice mail--and I need some quiet time and space to think. Can you relate?
