Ads That Assume Much

Ken Wheaton of Ad Age brought the following spot from Hungry Howie’s to my attention.

On YouTube, I found these two complimentary spots from the Michigan-based chain, which now has 564 locations in 22 states.


Of course, there’s nothing new about an agency making spots for a client that in turn makes fun of agency life. Write what you know. Right? Wrong! I like a pizza joint that seeks to interest me in their pizza.
On a related note, Faris Yakob pointed to this spot from John Lewis in the U.K., which he calls a “beautiful ad.”

I watched it and thought John Lewis was in the insurance business. But no, John Lewis is a retailer, an operator of department stores.
