A Namesake Departure

Adweek reports that Rick Colby said he is leaving Dentsu’s Colby & Partners.

He declined to detail the reasons for his departure, which leaves the Santa Monica, Calif., agency without its chief creative officer. Colby plans to open a new shop focused on Internet advertising and local clients.
Colby launched a shop called Larsen Colby in 1984. He soon partnered with New York-based creative director George Lois and the agency went through various name changes before Colby left in 1997 to run the Lord Dentsu shop in Santa Monica. After a year as Colby Effler, the company was rechristened Colby & Partners.

    Tim Andree the basketball player/ceo who never worked in an advertising agency has claimed Colby’s clients as his own, because he can not win new business for the NY office of Dentsu. Andree may be considered a complete failure by Japan if he didn’t show movement. So he moved Rick out. And took Rick’s clients for his own.

    Word is that there is no one happy at Dentsu NY. Everyone is trying like crazy to get out of there. Tim has proven to be a huge dissappointment to everyone. Everyone sees through his facade.

    Tim Andree has been exposed as nothing more than a six foot eight inch paper pusher. His attempt to position Dentsu NY as an “American” company is pure rubbish. Why would any American company have Dentsu do their advertising? The only way an American company would hire Dentsu is if a creative leader like RICK COLBY was totally in charge. And Andree blew that up for politics. Rick is an adman. Andree is an advertising empty suit.
